BetterU - Week One...Day One

Yippee-ai-ay! Saddle up posse members...were heading out, and the scale is heading down!

Time to set specific goals for this week.
  1. Exercise at least five times. I'll do Sweatin' to the Oldies 3 and will go to the pool for some water exercise. AND, I'll use my two-pound dumbbells for a good arm workout at least three days this week.
  2. Replace my normal-less-than-healthy evening snack with watermelon. I've already cut one up and it smells soooo good!
  3. Limit myself to only two cans of Diet Pepsi a day. This will be the hardest goal by far! My name is Charmi and I'm a pop-aholic!

I've already rewarded myself with a pre-program treat. I bought a pretty, summertime glass at Target. If I'm going to give up the pretty Diet Pepsi cans, I need to drink my water out of a pretty glass!

My reward at the end of the week when I meet all my goals - I'm going to buy myself flowers! Not a bouquet but summer plants for a pot next to my front door. Then every time I come home, I'll be reminded of my success. And, when I have to water them, I'll be reminded to drink some water myself.

So what about you? What are your goals? And your rewards? Let me know.

I love what you said about rewarding yourself with a plant -- being reminded daily of success is a great idea. It makes me want to rethink my pedicure, except I have a black thumb. I'll have to brain storm for week two!

I can also sympathize with the soda addiction. It wasn't too bad until I started my current job four years ago, where they give away free soda to their employees all day. It helps me be productive, but I cringe to think how much I'm used to drinking. I'm trying to cut down little by little to a can a day. So far I'm down to two and it is time to make that 1.5/day. Yikes! Yet exciting.

My doc has told me that I have to cut back on pop so this goal/challenge works out really well. Did you know that caffeine and the phosphorus in pop can leech the calcium from your bones and lead to osteoporosis?!

Because of some leg pain and tooth issues I've been having, my doc ordered a bone density scan. While we were talking, he asked about my pop consumption and read me the riot act. He went through all the damage pop drinking does to bones (and yes, even caffeine free because it still has phosphorus in it). Who knew?!

So, I have to limit my caffeine-free Diet Pepsi's to two a day - max. I'm trying to cut down to one as my final goal. But...ugh!

(btw - the scans came back fine...turns out a prescription drug I WAS on was causing all the problems.)
